Assistance Is Available for Customers in Need

Energy Assistance Program Applications Now Being Accepted

INDIANAPOLIS – As temperatures begin to decrease and the community continues to experience financial challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are options available for customers in need of assistance with making payments or catching up on their utility bills.

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) recently announced that individuals can begin submitting applications for program year 2021 of the Energy Assistance Program (EAP). An online application as well as more information can be found at www.eap.ihcda.in.gov or by calling 2-1-1.

Applications for the EAP are reviewed and processed by a network of local service providers. Due to the high demand, it may take local service providers up to 55 days to determine eligibility. After a benefit has been awarded, it may take an additional 30 days for the benefit to be processed. Individuals are encouraged to continue paying their utility bills while waiting for their EAP benefit. Households that have had their utilities disconnected, or have received a disconnect notice, should contact their local service provider for an appointment rather than applying online.
