DigIndy Site Preparation Also Will Begin in Ellenberger Park

INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning on or after Monday, August 2 and lasting through September 2021, East Pleasant Run Parkway South Drive will close from East Pleasant Run Parkway North Drive through the intersection at North Ritter Avenue as Citizens Energy Group performs sewer rehabilitation work.

During this time, through traffic will be detoured using 10th Street, East Washington Street, Emerson Avenue, and North Arlington Avenue (see map). Most of Ellenberger Park will remain open and accessible. The Pleasant Run Trail will remain open and accessible. However, bike lanes within the closure area will be closed, as will some of the Park’s walking paths. Local access will remain open.

In addition, site preparation for a portion of the DigIndy Pleasant Run Tunnel located within the southeast quadrant of Ellenberger Park will begin in early September. This will not require a roadway detour. Construction access will be along North Ritter Avenue just east of the park’s main entrance. Once construction begins, the southeast quadrant of the park (athletic fields) will be closed until the work is complete in 2025.

Commuters and park users should follow all posted detour and closure signage. For questions related to park access and activities, please contact the Ellenberger Park manager.

The completed portions of the DigIndy Tunnel System already have prevented nearly 2.5 billion gallons of sewage from entering our local waterways. Once the 7.4-mile Pleasant Run Tunnel is complete in 2025, sewer overflows now going to Pleasant Run Creek will be redirected to the tunnel, thus creating a healthier, more vibrant waterway and community. When the entire system is complete in 2025, it will capture up to 6 billion gallons of sewage annually, further restoring our local waterways to levels not seen in more than 100 years.

We know construction is never without its challenges, and we greatly appreciate your patience. For more information on this particular project, visit www.DigIndyTunnel.com/PleasantRun. For more information on all of Citizens’ construction projects, visit www.CitizensEnergyGroup.com/Construction.
