Throughout the month of January, Calvin Fletcher’s Coffee Company raised funds for the Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation™.
Each month, Calvin Fletcher’s, located at 647 Virginia Avenue, donates all the money from its tip jar to a different local nonprofit. The coffee shop also accepts online donations for its chosen charity of the month through its charitable foundation’s website.
The Calvin Fletcher’s Coffee Company Charitable Foundation was established in November 2018 to support small nonprofit organizations in the greater Indianapolis area. The foundation typically awards grants through an application process.
“Because of all the hardships experienced by Hoosiers during the coronavirus, the foundation board took a different approach at the end of 2020,” said Judy Litsey, the board’s president. “The board established giving priorities that we felt reflected the greatest current needs in our community – poverty, hunger, rent assistance, and utility assistance.”
An online search for nonprofits that addressed those needs led Litsey and fellow board members to Citizens Energy Group’s Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation.
Litsey said what drew them to Warm Heart Warm Home was the fact that Citizens matches donations up to $50,000 each year.
Combined with Citizens’ match, Calvin Fletcher’s donation of more than $1,500 will provide direct assistance to approximately 60 families in need. These funds will be leveraged with other assistance funding to help with utility bills (natural gas, water, and wastewater) and home repairs.
“We know our grants are small, but your matching funds make them bigger,” Litsey added. “We are so pleased we can play a small part in helping those around us.”
