Jada Buchanan has been at Citizens since September 2018. As User Experience Administrator, she manages all of Citizens’ social media channels.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy interacting with people every day! I love the variety in this position. Citizens Energy Group has many different services that I get to highlight on social media for our followers. I enjoy sharing information with our followers – that could simply be an educational guideline or a boil water order to ensure safety. One of my favorite topics to share is the numerous activities/organizations/events our employees participate in to give back to the community.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The most challenging part of my job is not taking things personally! As we all know, customers aren’t always happy with circumstances that impact their daily activities. Besides dealing with the occasional unhappy customer, another challenge is organizing all the different topic suggestions for posts. Planning when to post about different topics is a detailed process. To keep our customers informed about the progress of the DigIndy Tunnel System, I often go into the tunnel, so another challenge is trying to prevent my safety glasses from fogging up!
Where did you work before coming to Citizens?
Before coming to Citizens, I worked at the National FFA organization as Program Manager of Alumni & Supporters. Before that I was Manager of Marketing for the American Quarter Horse Association in Amarillo, Texas. I was ready for a change and Citizens was the perfect fit. I love working for a company that provides so much in a city I have truly enjoyed most of my life.
What’s a typical day like for you?
Each day starts with checking all social media notifications and listening to the news about anything that could have to do with one of our service areas. The day then could go many different directions. Sometimes it includes meeting with key employees to prepare for upcoming communication pieces. Those meetings are instrumental to developing a strong social media calendar to cover all areas of the four strategic pillars. Other days I am out in the field covering a variety of different areas and events.
What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
I really enjoy being with family and friends. I also love being on our boat on the lake. I grew up riding and showing horses and still love it. Whenever I can go for a ride, I do! Currently, I serve on the board of directors for Indianapolis Mounted Patrol Unit. It is a pleasure to work with the officers and horses that protect our city daily. Also, I’m a big fan of trying local restaurants.
Do you have any pets?
I have a rescued black alley cat named Mister Bizter Buchanan (Biz for short). Eventually, I plan to have a horse and dog again! Growing up with horses, goats, dogs and cats turned me into a major animal lover!
Any fun facts about you? Collect anything, have a hidden talent, etc.?
I was a state and national 4-H prepared public speaking champion when I was a sophomore in high school.
