Closure to Occur Between McCarty and South Streets

INDIANAPOLIS – On or after December 2, Illinois Street will close between McCarty and South Streets as Citizens Energy Group completes construction work on the Lower Pogue’s Run Tunnel, which is part of the DigIndy Tunnel System. The closure is necessary to complete the work safely and is expected to last until July 2020. Local access will remain open during this time. Through traffic will be redirected via posted detour signage.

The DigIndy Tunnel System, a 28-mile network of underground tunnels that will be complete by 2025, will nearly eliminate sewer overflows in Marion County. The first 10-mile segment of the tunnel system opened in December 2017 and has already prevented more than 1.3 billion gallons of sewage from flowing into local waterways.
