The successful candidate analyzes financial results, monitors variances, conducts comparative analyses, and identifies trends. Maintains and cultivates relationships with assigned area managers. Works with financial management to develop and maintain a financial forecasting process by area or function. Engages with assigned areas to prepare variance explanations and financial forecasts. Reviews accounting transactions to ensure their accuracy and prepares journal corrections as needed. Conducts account analysis and recommends actions. Aids assigned area managers in understanding their financial reports and variances. Prepares monthly financial reports, statistical reports, and analytical schedules. Assists financial management with development and preparation of budget reports. Provides analytical support for rate cases. Works with management to establish accounting methods and controls for new, changed, and/or complex business endeavors or transactions. Recognizes the need for procedural change or improvement and initiates action to address. Provides analytical and research support to financial management.
- Conducts day-to-day accounting activities during monthly closing process, including preparation of and reviewing work papers, journal entries, schedules, financial reports, statistical reports, account analysis, etc. Meeting established deadlines is crucial.
- Assists financial management in the following processes: annual budget, long range forecast, and monthly business unit forecasts. Provides analytical support during regulatory and rate case proceedings.
- Responds to inquiries and requests from colleagues and stakeholders throughout the Trusts in a professional, prompt, and helpful manner. Provides technical expertise and advice to functional or operational area managers.
- Provides support during quarterly financial reporting activities, including flux explanations and disclosure information. Meeting established deadlines is crucial.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration
- At least seven years of practical professional experience in one or more areas of accounting with demonstrated ability to apply accounting theory, principles and techniques
- Computer proficiency with standard office software (documents, spreadsheets, presentations)
- Familiarity with general ledger and/or ERP systems commonly in use by large organizations
- Understanding of GAAP, internal controls, FERC, and NARUC
- Position requires strong analytical ability and knowledge of financial analysis techniques
- Problem-solving skills
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to collaborate with internal business partners
- Attention to detail and accuracy in both written and numerical work
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Utility/regulatory experience
- Experience writing queries and extracting data
- CPA, CMA, CIA certification is desirable
