“Trick or Tree” Event Will Take Place in Frederick Douglass Park
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group employees will join community volunteers in planting 50 trees as part of Citizens’ 10 Thousand Trees collaboration with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. The event is a component of Citizens’ ongoing initiative to plant 10,000 trees across the city by 2025 as a way to beautify neighborhoods and reduce raw sewage overflows to area waterways. Volunteers are encouraged to celebrate the festive season by coming in costume.

Where: Frederick Douglass Park, 30th St. and Ralston Ave.
When: Friday, October 19, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
“10 Thousand Trees is a vital part of Citizens’ $2.4 billion DigIndy investment that will nearly eliminate sewage overflows to area waterways by 2025,” said Citizens President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison. “During rainfalls of one quarter inch or more, Indianapolis’ combined sewer system can cause sewage to overflow into our streams and rivers, causing a threat to public health. One large tree can intercept thousands of gallons of stormwater every year by holding rain on its leaves, branches and trunk, reducing the amount of sewage that overflows into our waterways. 10 Thousand Trees is an innovative and cost-effective way to prevent sewage overflow.”

With so much investment going underground to clean up local waterways, it’s exciting that 10,000 trees can create value above ground, for the environment and for neighborhoods.
