Construction will limit traffic for approximately nine months.
INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning on or after Friday, July 28, construction work on the DigIndy Tunnel System will require the closure of W. 22nd Street, between Capitol and Kenwood Avenues. Construction at this location is expected to last approximately nine months, with completion anticipated in spring 2024.
While no homes or businesses have frontage along the closed street segment, alley access will be maintained for nearby residences.
Motorists traveling west on W. 22nd Street can detour north at Illinois Street, then west on W. 23rd Street, then south on Capitol Avenue. Motorists planning to access eastbound W. 22nd Street from Capitol Avenue can detour by continuing south along Capitol Avenue, then turning east on Fosters Place, then turning north on Illinois Street before reconnecting with W. 22nd Street.
Travelers are reminded to follow all signage and to be especially careful when near an active construction zone. Citizens has worked in advance to communicate details of this construction project and the roadway restrictions to local property and business owners.
