INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group and a coalition of partners are working to renovate the public park facilities of Municipal Gardens this week as part of Citizens’ 17th annual Sharing the Dream project. Sharing the Dream is a multi-day community service project honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which gives Citizens employees a chance to serve Central Indiana neighborhoods. Expanded to three days of volunteerism this year, more than 200 employee volunteers will collectively have donated hundreds of working hours by the completion of the event on Friday evening. Citizens Energy Group and a coalition of more than 30 partners have contributed $450,000 in funds or in-kind donations to upgrade the facilities’ buildings and equipment.

Photos from the event as well as a 60-second clip of video B-roll are available on this webpage.

“This is a truly special kind of public-private partnership that reaches so many people,” said Citizens President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison while volunteering at the event. “Our employees are excited to get involved; our partners are excited to contribute; and we trust park users will feel the impact of these renovations for years to come.”

Harrison added: “My thanks go out especially to Indy Parks and the Parks Alliance of Indianapolis for coordinating with us to make these projects a success—and the work they do every day to support and improve our community’s public park system.”

Municipal Gardens is seeing improvements throughout its property, including in the lobby, hallways, stairs, elevators, gym, concession stand, locker rooms, offices, storage areas, fitness center, restrooms, pantry kitchen and ballroom. Specific work includes cleaning and painting all spaces; scoping, cleaning, and repairing all sewer lines leaving the building; servicing all HVAC equipment; organizing major storage areas; servicing all doors and locks; servicing all water faucets and flush valves; replacing light fixtures; installing new room signage; and adding more internal and external security cameras.

“We commend the employees of Citizens Energy Group and their partners for rolling up their sleeves and leveraging their skills to revitalize important spaces like those within the Indy Parks system,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Municipal Gardens is a beloved space for the Indianapolis community on the northwest side, and these improvements mean it can keep shining for years to come.”
