White River Cleanup, Now in Its 33rd Year, Removes 18 Tons of Trash from Banks of Waterway

INDIANAPOLIS – More than 115 volunteers from Citizens Energy Group, Friends of the White River, and Indianapolis community organizations spent Saturday morning removing litter, trash, and illegally dumped debris from riverbanks as part of the 33rd annual White River Cleanup.

The White River Cleanup is one of many efforts, including Citizens’ DigIndy Tunnel System project, to sustain the long-term viability of the river as a unique natural resource now and for future generations.

Scott Salmon, Executive Director of Friends of the White River, said, “The White River Cleanup is a proud tradition for our organization, and we’re grateful for Citizens’ support once again. By removing more than 18 tons of trash from the banks of this precious natural resource, we are helping to fulfill our mission to protect, preserve, and promote our vital resource for communities in Central Indiana by connecting people to the White River.”
