Citizens and Partners Invest $100,000 in Upgrades

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group and its generous partners are renovating the Watkins Park Family Center as part of Citizens’ Sharing the Dream project. Sharing the Dream is a multi-day community service project that gives Citizens employees a chance to serve Central Indiana and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Employee volunteers will collectively donate hundreds of hours of their time during the two-day event, and Citizens and roughly 20 partners this year have contributed $100,000, either monetarily or in-kind, to upgrade the facility.

Citizens Energy Group President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison, Mayor Joe Hogsett, and Indy Parks Director Phyllis Boyd will tour the renovation in progress on Thursday morning:

When: Thursday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Watkins Park Family Center
2360 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St.
            Indianapolis, IN 46208

Media are invited to attend. Social distancing on site will be closely observed and all attendees must wear a face covering. If you don’t have a face covering, one will be provided.

Citizens President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison said, “Year after year, Citizens employees and our partners dedicate time and talent to refreshing Indy Parks facilities through Sharing the Dream. This year, we are proud to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through the transformation of the Watkins Park Family Center, a mainstay of the vibrant Near Northwest community.”

Improvements to the facility include new security cameras; new LED lighting; fresh paint throughout; new audio-visual equipment; transformation of a storage room into a reception area; restroom repairs; new furniture; exterior access ramp replacement; landscape improvements; and much more.

“Watkins Park and its Family Center will benefit greatly from this year’s Sharing the Dream project,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Thank you to Citizens and partners for investing in a facility that has such a rich tradition of offering youth and senior programs and services, and hosting weddings, family events, civic meetings, and other gatherings in the Near Northwest community.”

On Monday, January 17, Indy Parks will reopen the newly updated Family Center for a community open house from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., giving neighbors a chance to tour the facility and see the improvements.
