Flexible Payment Arrangements and Financial Assistance Available

INDIANAPOLIS – Recognizing the financial impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, Citizens Energy Group continues to assist customers who are behind on their utility bills by helping them establish flexible payment arrangements and directing them to various sources of financial assistance.

Customers should reach out to Citizens at 317-924-3311 or www.CitizensEnergyGroup.com/Help to review options, including flexible payment arrangements, which allow customers to catch up on past-due bills over an extended period while keeping their service connected. Late fees and reconnection fees are currently being waived.

Citizens can also help customers explore financial assistance options, including the Energy Assistance Program (EAP), the United Way Winter Assistance Fund and Citizens’ Warm Heart Warm Home Foundation.

In addition, Indiana was recently awarded nearly $17 million in supplemental Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding through the federal CARES Act. This funding provides a $350 benefit for individuals whose income now qualifies for EAP because they lost their job or experienced a significant decrease in hours as a result of the COVID-19 emergency declaration. The benefit is available to individuals who previously received energy assistance, as well as those who have not yet applied but meet the household income requirements.

Customers should call 211 or visit www.eap.ihcda.in.gov for eligibility requirements and a list of local service providers who administer the EAP in Indiana. Applications are due by July 31.
