INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group recently announced that Melissa Lawson has been named Vice President, Customer Operations. Lawson succeeds Curtis Popp, who retired at the end of September after more than 30 years at Citizens.

Lawson began her career at Citizens in 2009 as a Customer Service Representative. She has since held positions of increasing responsibility including District Supervisor; Manager, Gas System Integrity; and her most recent role of Director of Shared Field Services.

Citizens President & CEO Jeffrey Harrison said, “I am pleased to welcome Melissa Lawson to Citizens Energy Group’s officer team. Melissa is well-versed in customer service, having spent much of her Citizens career in that arena. As Director of Shared Field Services, she oversaw more than 250 employees across Customer Field Services & Technical Training, Dispatch, and Meter Services—three essential teams that directly support the daily experience of Citizens customers. I am looking forward to Melissa bringing her many years of expertise to the table.”

Prior to joining Citizens, Lawson served in financial and operations leadership roles at Infrastructure Contractors, Leppert Products, and Rinker Materials. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Management from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration from Anderson University. In addition, she is a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership’s Executive Program and the Hamilton County Leadership Academy’s Class of 2025.
