Customers asked to use water wisely as utility crews continue supporting emergency response and reliable service

INDIANAPOLIS — Citizens Energy Group continues to closely monitor significant rainfall and rising river levels affecting portions of Central Indiana in coordination with local municipalities, first responders, and local and regional emergency management officials.

“First and foremost, our hearts are with all who have been affected by this generational flooding,” said Jeffrey A. Harrison, President & CEO. “This is a historic flood event impacting communities across Central Indiana, and our focus remains on keeping our employees and customers safe, maintaining reliable utility services, and supporting emergency response efforts.”

Citizens crews are in the field assisting as needed and helping ensure water, wastewater, and natural gas services are delivered safely. Due to the extreme conditions, Citizens has temporarily suspended a portion of operations at its White River North water treatment plant to protect infrastructure and maintain system reliability.

Citizens maintains emergency response and water supply contingency plans designed to support continued service during significant weather-related events. The utility’s resilient and interconnected system includes 10 water treatment plants, multiple waterways and reservoirs, and groundwater wells. This system has allowed Citizens to direct available supply from other treatment facilities and distribution assets to continue serving customers without interruption.

Out of an abundance of caution, Citizens is asking customers to be WaterWise and limit discretionary water use while conditions remain challenging. Customers are strongly encouraged to avoid running irrigation systems, washing vehicles, and using water in ways outside normal household needs.

Citizens water remains safe to drink. Water main breaks related to road collapses may trigger boil water advisories in specific areas. If a boil water advisory becomes necessary, Citizens will communicate directly through the news media, its website, and social media channels.

“We appreciate the extraordinary efforts of first responders, emergency managers, and Citizens employees who are working around the clock to serve our community,” said Ed Bukovac, Vice President Water Operations.

Citizens will continue keeping public officials, customers, and the news media informed as conditions evolve and will provide timely updates if operational changes or additional conservation measures become necessary.

As updates become available, information will be posted via Citizens Energy Group social media pages and at www.citizensenergygroup.com.
