The road closure, located east of Sherman Drive, will reopen by early September.

INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning on or after Monday, June 17, construction work by Citizens Energy Group contractors on the DigIndy Tunnel System will require full roadway closure along English Avenue, about a block east of its intersection with Sherman Drive. Crews expect the closure to be in place at the Denny Street intersection until at least early September. Travelers are encouraged to find alterative routes to avoid delays.

Signs will detour east- and west-bound traffic from English Avenue north to the parallel E Washington Street via S Sherman Drive and Emerson Avenue. Local vehicular access will be maintained for nearby neighborhoods.

Citizens Energy Group reminds travelers to heed all signage and to be especially careful when near an active construction zone. Citizens has worked in advance to communicate details of this construction project and the roadway restrictions to nearby property owners and stakeholders, including those in Christian Park.

About the DigIndy Tunnel System:
The DigIndy Tunnel System is a 28-mile network of 18-foot diameter deep rock tunnels being built 250 feet beneath the city. Along with other projects in the combined sewer system and at two advanced wastewater treatment plants, the $2 billion program is Indy’s solution to reducing combined sewer overflows into area waterways, keeping the utility and the City of Indianapolis in compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Now more than a decade in the making, completed portions of the DigIndy Tunnel System have prevented more than 5 billion gallons of sewage from entering our local waterways. Construction will conclude and the entire system will be operational in 2025.
