Brings 33 Years of Wide-Ranging Legal Experience to Company

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group announced today that Joseph M. Perkins, Jr. has joined the organization as Senior Vice President & General Counsel. In his role at Citizens, Perkins will oversee Legal, Regulatory & External Affairs; Human Resources; Health Safety and Security; Internal Audit; and Environmental Stewardship.

For the past 5 years he has served as Corporate Counsel – Regulatory and Global Business Operations for Allison Transmission, Inc. In this role, Perkins served as the lead regulatory compliance attorney for the company, including global trade compliance and compliance with global mobile source emissions regulations.

Prior to his work with Allison, Perkins served in positions of increasing responsibility for other organizations including Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary for NIBCO, Inc.; Deputy General Counsel for the Americas and Legal Quality Champion for Cummins, Inc.; Senior Counsel – Power Generation Americas; Litigation and Employment Law Associate for Kightlinger & Gray; Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Indianapolis; and Litigation and Employment Law Associate for Locke Reynolds.

Perkins has a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Politics at Princeton University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law. He also is a certified Six Sigma sponsor. In addition, Perkins has been recognized with numerous awards over his career including the Business Turn Around Award and First Chair Award as Top Assistant General Counsel at Cummins.

Throughout his career, Perkins has been very active in professional and community service. He is currently the Chair of the Martin University Board of Trustees, and a Board Member for the Indiana Stadium and Convention Center Building Authority. He previously served on the Board of Trustees of Franklin College and was a member of the Indiana Election Commission.
