The Indianapolis civic luminary led the Indianapolis Water Company for more than a decade.
INDIANAPOLIS – The current and former employees of Citizens Energy Group wish to respectfully mark the passing of James T. Morris, remembering him as a visionary leader in many facets of life in Central Indiana, and particularly for his guidance at the helm of Indianapolis’ water utility between 1989 – 2002. Mr. Morris served in various roles as President, Chief Operating Officer, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Executive Officer of the Indianapolis Water Company (a predecessor to Citizens Energy Group’s acquisition of the utility), and many of Citizens’ current and recent employees fondly remember his leadership.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the Morris family, even as we cherish the tremendous legacy Jim left for our profession and our community,” said Jeff Harrison, President & CEO of Citizens Energy Group.
Mr. Morris gave more than a decade of his community advancement expertise to developing the critical water utility operations and infrastructure which serve Indianapolis residents. His tenure at the Indianapolis Water Company was bookended between monumental roles, previously as president of the Lilly Endowment and subsequently as executive director of the World Food Programme.
Major company milestones overseen by Mr. Morris included the completion of the city’s White River North Station, which increased water treatment and supply capacity by 24 million gallons per day, as well as the rededication of the Eagle Creek Treatment and Pumping Station, renamed the T.W. Moses Filtration Plant at a ceremony attended by then Vice President Dan Quayle.
The legacy of James T. Morris will live on with the people he inspired as a testament to his servant leadership and dedication to the Indianapolis community.
