Up to three months of closure for utility relocations will prepare the site for Indy DPW’s future neighborhood stormwater project.
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group today announced the coming closure of Shelby Street between Morris Street and Cottage Avenue. Utility crews will close the street on or after Monday, December 1, for up to three months to complete the relocation of utility infrastructure. These relocations are required by the upcoming construction of comprehensive stormwater infrastructure upgrades in this location via the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.
Information on Indy DPW’s stormwater project, including presentations from recent and historical public meetings, can be found here.
Shelby Street through-traffic should anticipate that the whole roadway segment will be inaccessible, though some portions may be open intermittently during the closure. Signs will direct southbound traffic (turning from Virginia Avenue, Morris Street or Prospect Street) and northbound traffic to detour using parallel Keystone Avenue, connecting via Prospect and Raymond streets.
A map of the closure and detour routes is below.
IndyGo advises that the Red Line (bus route 90) will detour around the closure, and both the Pleasant Run and Raymond bus platforms will be closed. The Red Line will share Route 13 bus stops on Raymond Street. Signage will be posted to notify passengers where they can access the bus. Bus detour information can be found here.
Citizens Energy Group has worked to communicate construction details regarding the closure to nearby business owners, apartment buildings, and community institutions.
