DigIndy and Red Line Work Completed Ahead of October 31 Target Date
INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group will reopen Shelby Street between East Troy Avenue and East Southern Avenue by 7 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, October 5. The project was originally expected to last through the end of the month. However, Citizens’ contractor, Bowen Engineering Corporation, remained committed to minimizing impacts to the neighborhood, and their concerted efforts resulted in Shelby Street reopening almost a month ahead of schedule.
The work completed in this area includes the construction of underground infrastructure that will capture and divert combined sewer overflows to the Pleasant Run Tunnel, a portion of the DigIndy Tunnel System to be completed by 2025. Citizens also relocated water lines to accommodate IndyGo’s Red Line work.
This is the second DigIndy-related road closure to open early in the past three weeks. Meridian Street at 28th Street opened six weeks ahead of schedule on September 17.
