Construction will close portions of the street through the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood to install new, more resilient water mains.

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group today announced upcoming construction along 25th Street (between Sherman Drive and Keystone Avenue) which will ensure continued water service to residents in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. Smaller water mains along N Gale, Stuart, and N Rural streets will also be upgraded. Beginning January 26, construction work and associated road closures will be phased across a six-month timeline, with local access maintained for homes and businesses, and a single detour recommended along parallel 30th Street for through-traffic.

A map of anticipated road closures and the detour is included at the bottom of this release.

Divided into approximately two-month phases moving from east to west, the construction zone along 25th Street will rarely be fully closed to traffic, but parking lanes or individual parking spaces may be impacted while crews are working. Citizens recommends that commuters plan to use 30th Street throughout the 6-month timeline.

Construction will be completed using funds secured via the Indiana Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

As work occurs, Citizens will also be replacing customer-owned lead service lines in the construction zone via its Lead Service Line Replacement Program. Citizens works with several local transportation agencies to coordinate such replacements on planned construction projects.

Citizens Energy Group has worked to communicate construction details regarding the 25th Street closure to nearby business owners, residents, and community institutions.
