Work to Begin on or After October 14

INDIANAPOLIS – On or after October 14, Citizens Energy Group will begin performing sewer rehabilitation on Pennsylvania, Ohio and Delaware Streets. The work is expected to last through mid-January.

Lane restrictions during this project are necessary to complete the work safely. Full road closures are not expected. Access to businesses and parking lots will always remain open.

Work will take place in phases. The affected areas are as follows:

  • Pennsylvania Street from Ohio Street to Washington Street
  • Ohio Street from Alabama Street to Pennsylvania Street
  • Delaware Street from New York Street to Ohio Street

Many of the Mile Square-area’s sewers date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. To avoid structure failures such as those that occurred downtown last summer, Citizens remains committed to investing in sewer rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements.

“This work taking place within the Mile Square is essential to the continued safe and reliable operation of Indianapolis’ sewer system,” said Citizens Vice President of Capital Programs & Engineering Mark Jacob. “We greatly appreciate motorists’ patience as we complete this project over the next several months. Construction is temporary, but the improvements will serve Indianapolis residents for many decades to come.”
