Some Odors May be Noticeable Near the Work Along 86th and Zionsville Road
INDIANAPOLIS – Starting today, Citizens Energy Group will be relocating an odorant tank at a location near 86th Street and Zionsville Road. The tank holds an odorant called mercaptan that utilities add to natural gas to give it a rotten egg smell so leaks can easily be detected.
Citizens is moving the tank a short distance north to a new location where Citizens pipeline system interconnects with Panhandle Eastern Pipeline. The work should be completed on Friday. It is possible that some odors may be noticeable in the area near the work. Citizens is taking steps to minimize release of the odorant, which is harmless.
