Citizens Energy Group’s Olivia Hawbaker spoke about our 10 Thousand Trees program at the Keep America Beautiful National Conference on February 13.
Hawbaker, Project Manager, Underground Engineering & Construction, joined Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) President & CEO, Jeremy Kranowitz to share with attendees how Citizens and KIB formed a unique partnership to plant 10,000 trees by 2025. As of December 2019, 3,700 trees have been planted.
Not only does the 10 Thousand Trees initiative beautify local neighborhoods, it also supports Citizens’ DigIndy project to nearly eliminate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to area waterways. An additional 10,000 mature trees planted within CSO areas may provide up to a million gallons of stormwater storage during rain events, and thus further reduce CSOs.
