The Central Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) celebrated the life and legacy of Yvonne Perkins at its 85th Conference in Indianapolis in March with the opening of the Yvonne Perkins Community Outreach Pavilion.
Perkins, a lifelong resident of Indianapolis who spent more than 40 years working at Citizens, was an influential civic leader and avid community volunteer. Before her passing in November 2016, she served on the boards of several Indianapolis organizations, and was a dedicated AKA member and leader at the local, regional and international levels.
Throughout AKA’s Central Region conference, the Yvonne Perkins Community Outreach Pavilion was open to the public and offered free mammograms and glucose and cholesterol screenings; provided financial and educational resources; and hosted art displays and live performances.
