April is National Volunteer Month: Celebrating 2020 Community Volunteerism

Although many volunteer events were canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, Citizens Energy Group would like to recognize our employees for continuing to support the community. 

In early 2020, before the pandemic, many employees volunteered at the Sharing the Dream event and for the tax-preparation program. 

In addition, several employees volunteered in the community on their ownEach year, through Citizens’ Community Volunteer Support Program, employees and retirees have the opportunity to earn a $250 grant for a non-profit organization for which they volunteer. Employees normally must volunteer at least 50 hours for an organization in order to be eligible for the grant; due to the pandemic, the threshold for 2020 was lowered to 20 hours.  

Below is a list of community volunteers and the organizations for which they earned $250 grants:

Chris Kennedy: Fountains of Hope 

Dan Koiro: United States Civil Air Patrol – USAF Auxiliary 

Andy Lutz: Franklin Township Youth Football Club LLC 

Bob Messmer (retiree): Hunger Inc. 

Beth Noel: Learning Trails and TheraTails 

Ann Shutters: Opening Doors Inc. 

Jerry Sikes: Indianapolis Zoological Society  

Shannon Stahley: Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center
