Citizens Employees, Projects Earn Awards

Citizens Energy Group and many of its employees recently have received awards from various organizations. Read on to learn who has been honored for years of service to the water industry, excellence in engineering, public outreach, and community involvement.

HURTY AWARDS

At the March Leadership Forum, Jeff Willman, Vice President, Water Operations, recognized 12 employees as recipients of The John N. Hurty Service Award.

The Hurty Award is named after John Newell Hurty, M.D., who was the State Health Commissioner of the Indiana State Board of Health for seven consecutive terms, from 1896 to 1922. Dr. Hurty, a pioneer dedicated to fighting waterborne diseases, was instrumental in the formation of an organization of community water systems operators which was the forerunner to the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

Recipients of the Hurty Award must have been employed 25 years or more in some phase of production or distribution in the waterworks field, servicing the citizens of Indiana.

PLEASANT RUN CREEK REMEDIATION AND RESTORATION PROJECT and DEEP ROCK TUNNEL CONNECTOR:

AMERICAN COUNCIL OF ENGINEERING COMPANIES OF INDIANA HONOR AWARDS

ACEC AwardsTwo of Citizens’ engineering consulting firms recently received Honor Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Indiana.

August Mack Environmental was recognized for its work on the Pleasant Run Creek Remediation and Restoration Project. The firm restored ecological function on the site of Citizens’ former Manufactured Gas Plant. The stream investigation, remedial design, regulatory approval, and remedial construction were completed in an expedited 24-month period.

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. received recognition for the Deep Rock Tunnel Connector (DRTC) component of the DigIndy Tunnel System. The DRTC is the southernmost portion of the tunnel system and includes 9.6 miles of tunnel, four drop shafts and vent shafts, three utility shafts, a launch shaft at the south end, and a retrieval shaft at the north end.

These awards are given out each year by ACEC Indiana to recognize outstanding engineering achievements that demonstrate a high degree of merit and ingenuity.

DigIndy VR AwardDIGINDY VIRTUAL REALITY VIDEO:

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (PUBLIC INFORMATION AND EDUCATION)

Citizens Energy Group was recognized for its DigIndy public outreach efforts at the National Association of Clean Water Agencies winter conference in early February. The DigIndy virtual reality video earned Citizens a National Environmental Achievement Award in the Public Information and Education category.

Award recipients have proven to be inventive in their efforts to educate the public on the effects of wastewater treatment and pollution control on the environment. The award application included a link to the video, information about the many ways it has been shared (including social media, educational events, and festivals), and feedback we’ve received about the video.

Park and Rec Award_croppedSHARING THE DREAM:

INDIANA PARK AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION CORPORATE PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Indiana Park and Recreation Association named Citizens Energy Group the Corporate Partner of the Year at its annual conference in late February. The award recognizes Citizens for its 2018 Sharing the Dream event, which marked the 10th year for the project. To commemorate this milestone, Citizens returned to Brookside Park, the location of the first Sharing the Dream event. Improvements to the facility included a refurbished auditorium and stage, an expanded kitchen, new lighting, and fresh paint.

Ashlock_BAGI AwardDIANE ASHLOCK:

BUILDER'S ASSOCIATION OF GREATER INDIANAPOLIS 2018 ASSOCIATE OF THE YEAR 

At the Builder’s Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) Annual Awards Gala in mid-March, Diane Ashlock, Commercial Sales Consultant, was named the organization’s 2018 Associate of the Year. Ashlock, who serves on BAGI’s board of directors, was recognized by her peers for her hard work and dedication and for being a valuable member and leader of BAGI and the builder community.

Diane Ashlock was named BAGI Associate of the Year.
