Citizens Energy Group recently received a 2022 Community Builder Award from Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity for participation in two home construction projects in the Riverside neighborhood.
Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Habitat believes housing is important to the quality of life, health, and economic prosperity of local families and the entire community. Since its founding in 1987, Greater Indy Habitat has provided the life-changing opportunity of homeownership to more than 645 local families.
Citizens has been a longtime partner of Habitat by providing volunteers for home construction projects across the city as well as significant financial assistance through the utility’s weatherization programs, including funding for energy-efficient furnaces and water heaters and water-saving appliances.
In September and November 2022, Citizens employees and business partners volunteered during the construction of Habitat homes on west 19th Street in the Riverside neighborhood. Volunteers included Payton Staman, Allison Walker, Rich Newell, Dave Clark, Chris Kennedy, and Joe Nagy. They were joined by business partners Kyle Kirkley, Zack Poling, and Garrett Jespersen of TSW Utility Solutions; Mark Kaiser and Louis Caito of Christopher B. Burke Engineering; Kaitlyn Currie of American Structurepoint; and Citizens Service Provider Lance Langer.
