Citizens Energy Group was the presenting sponsor of the 31st Annual Recognition Of Service Excellence (ROSE) Awards, held Monday, May 2, at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Every spring, Visit Indy hosts the ROSE Awards ceremony to honor non-managerial customer service employees in the city.
Event partners are invited to nominate up to two employees or volunteers to receive a ROSE Award. Citizens nominated Keith Crawford, Utility Service Specialist, and Lavashia Primus, a former Customer Support Specialist, who recently accepted the position of Clerk within the Water Production department.
Crawford was named a winner for keeping a customer safe during a gas leak and fire. After being dispatched to investigate, he found a leak in the house lines and turned off the gas. He explained next steps to the customer, and as he was preparing to leave the premise, he noticed the other occupant of the duplex screaming and running over to the other unit where he’d been working. Seeing that the neighbor was on fire, Crawford immediately took off his jacket to attempt to smother the fire. He then realized the duplex was on fire, so he called 911 and checked that the gas lines were turned off to the house and then returned to the front of the house. The initial customer was confused and wanted to enter back into the home to grab her deceased son’s pictures. Crawford informed her it was too dangerous and pulled her and her daughters away from the home as emergency personnel arrived. Crawford remained on the scene with the customer and her daughters, keeping them calm and safe. The customer called Crawford’s supervisor to express her gratitude for acting with urgency and saving her and her daughters.
