The tunnel boring machine (TBM), the massive tool used to drill through bedrock 250-feet below ground, is scheduled to arrive at Langsdale around the first of March. This is a notable milestone because it marks the completion of mining for the third and fourth sections of the DigIndy Tunnel System (the Lower Pogues Run and White River Tunnels). It also marks the start of the Fall Creek Tunnel segment.
After mining of the Fall Creek Tunnel segment, this leaves the final section, the Pleasant Run Tunnel, to be mined. Since its first 10 miles opened in December 2017, the tunnel system has prevented more than 650 million gallons of sewage from entering the White River and Eagle Creek.
