A programmable thermostat can help you save energy and money. Learn a few tips to be more efficient.
- You can save as much as 10 percent per year on heating and cooling by turning your thermostat down seven to 10 degrees for 8 hours a day in the fall and winter; turn it up in the spring and summer.
- Pre-programmed settings adjust the temperature for when you are awake, asleep, or away.
- Install your thermostat away from heating or cooling vents or registers, heat-generating appliances or electronics, open doorways and direct sunlight.
- Resist the urge to override your settings. Every time you override, it costs you money.
- If your thermostat runs on batteries, change them at least once a year.
