Citizens Energy Group received notification that the Fall Creek Water Treatment Plant and the Distribution System won Phase III Directors Awards from the Partnership for Safe Water.
The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary effort between six drinking water organizations and more than 300 water utilities. The goal of the Partnership is to provide a new measure of public health protection to millions by encouraging utilities to voluntarily improve performance beyond current regulatory requirements.
To become eligible for the Directors Award, water treatment facilities must complete Phase I of the program, which requires a commitment to be fully engaged in the optimization process, and Phase II, which includes submitting baseline and annual data to measure improvement. Phase III – the basis for the Directors Award – requires a self-assessment report that is evaluated by a group of utility peers.
Award-winning utilities demonstrate an outstanding commitment to delivering superior quality drinking water to customers. Citizens has previously received an award for the White River Water Treatment Plant and has submitted the TW Moses and White River North plants for consideration.
Chris Barron led a Citizens team through the application process for the Fall Creek Treatment Plant; the team that worked on the submittal for the distribution system was led by Steve Berube, Dan Moran, and Paul Dicken.
The review team was impressed by several aspects of the Fall Creek Water Treatment Plant, including:
- Continuous improvement in water quality;
- Thorough Operational Guidance documents that result in consistency in operation; and
- Action Plans that help employees prioritize work and plant needs in an organized way.
“The two Directors Awards are well deserved and another positive step in our Partnership for Safe Water journey,” said Jeff Willman, Vice President, Water Operations.
