Helpful Hint from HR

When can I make benefit changes?

Benefit changes can only be made during open enrollment each year or after a “life event” or “coverage event.”

What is a life event or coverage event?

  • Job status change (full-time to part-time, or vice versa)
  • Marriage/domestic partnership
  • Divorce
  • Birth of a baby
  • Adoption
  • Legal guardianship
  • Death of dependent
  • Job change by spouse/domestic partner
  • Change in eligibility for spouse’s/domestic partner’s coverage

When am I required to make a life event or coverage
event change?

You have 30 days from the event to process your benefit change, unless the change is due to an event related to the loss of coverage or eligibility for premium assistance for a Medicaid plan or a state children’s health plan. If you wait longer than 30 days, you will not be able to make a change until open enrollment. How do I make a change? Visit www.benefitsolver.com, log into your account, and navigate to “Change My Benefits.” From there, click on “Life Event” and then choose the appropriate option. For more information, refer to the benefits guide on iTrust or contact Adrianne Bowers at (317) 927-4636.
