Citizens Energy Group was recognized with the Laboratory Excellence Award at the Indiana Water Environment Association’s (IWEA) annual conference on August 17.
The Laboratory Excellence Award is given for outstanding achievement in the implementation of laboratory techniques and administration.
To be eligible for the award, Citizens submitted an application as a means of continuous improvement detailing processes and testing methods used to demonstrate compliance with Citizens’ IDEM-issued National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the Belmont and Southport wastewater treatment plants. The recognition of our Lab Services Team was also based on the results of a detailed audit of the laboratory facility located at our White River Water Treatment Plant conducted by a member of the IWEA Laboratory Committee.
Winners of the annual award must score 85 percent or higher in each category as well as an overall score of at least 90 percent. The categories include quality assurance and quality control program, laboratory facilities, general laboratory organization, cleanliness, and safety as well as specific testing parameters such as ammonia, total suspended solids, and E. coli testing. Citizens’ overall score was 93.1 percent.
This is the second year in a row that Lab Services has received the award.
