Partnership for Excellence in Research and Learning (PERL) partner Trine University recently received a $1 million grant from the Lilly Endowment as part of the Endowment’s Charting the Future for Indiana Colleges and Universities initiative.

Citizens supported Trine’s Innovation One program in its application for the grant by submitting a letter of support acknowledging the program’s plans to use the grant to advance the experiential learning experience through the implementation of extended reality programming and resources (e.g., artificial intelligence, virtual reality, mixed reality).

Executive Director of Innovation One Jason Blume said, “This grant will allow us to effectively further our mission in an innovative and creative way. It also will greatly aid our current and future students to be better prepared in a rapidly changing global workforce that is becoming massively disrupted by machines.”

Tracey Black, Citizens’ PERL ambassador to Trine, said, “I’m happy Citizens was able to support Trine and Innovation One’s successful effort to secure this transformational grant from the Lilly Endowment. I’m looking forward to seeing how they use the $1 million to further the extended reality experience for students.”

Other PERL partners who received a grant as part of the Charting the Future for Indiana Colleges and Universities initiative include Anderson University ($1 million), Ball State University ($2.5 million), Purdue University ($5 million), University of Evansville ($1 million) and University of Indianapolis ($2.5 million).
