The Deep Rock Tunnel Connector (DRTC) Pump Station was recently recognized as one of the best construction projects in the Midwest by Engineering News-Record (ENR), a construction industry magazine.
The DRTC Pump Station, which opened in December 2017, moves combined sewer overflow from the DigIndy Tunnel System into the Southport Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The ENR Regional Best Projects Awards are based on innovation, safety, and teamwork.
The award application, submitted by the project’s general contractor, Oscar Renda Contracting/Southland Contracting Joint Venture, described how the team of engineers from various firms and Citizens Energy Group worked together to overcome challenges associated with working underground and how multiple safety procedures were implemented throughout the project.
