What do you enjoy about your job?
I am fascinated with the system and how the decisions we make daily affect our internal and external customers. We are asked for input on what we see as areas of improvement needed to make the system work more efficiently.
What is a typical day like for you?
This job changes with the season. Working in Water, each day is different, but the goal stays the same: We strive to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to thousands of customers.
Tell us about your team/department, and what you are responsible for at Citizens.
Our team is small, but we have a lot of responsibility as we deliver water to Indianapolis and the seven surrounding counties. We work around the clock on 12-hour shifts, seven days a week to ensure that we provide the best possible customer service by monitoring pressure, flows, levels, and residuals in our stations and tanks. We work closely with Dispatch, Distribution Maintenance, and, on occasion, Customer Service on issues such as main breaks, loss of pressure, water quality, main flushing, periodic tests, or pressure changes.
What are some of the challenges you face in your job?
I wouldn’t say challenges, more like opportunities to be the best at what you do. You have the opportunity to create new processes, help control costs, and share knowledge with other departments.
How do you spend your time outside of work
I bowl in three leagues each week and enjoy spending the rest of my time with family and friends.
