J.P. Ghio joined Citizens Energy Group on January 6 and will succeed Chris Braun as Vice President, Energy Operations, upon Braun’s retirement on April 1. Learn more about J.P. below.

1. Where did you work before coming to Citizens?

I began my career with UGI Utilities in Pennsylvania as an engineer and transitioned back and forth to a sister company, UGI Energy Services. I held various positions in areas from engineering, plant operations, marketing, field operations, to supply and customer operations.

2. What is your educational background?

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and a Master of Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University.

3. What made you interested in the position at Citizens?

Having been in the energy industry for over 25 years, I was aware of Citizens Energy Group. The concept of the Trust is unique and the opportunity to work here was very interesting to me. With the mission of adding value and creating the greatest long-term benefit for customers and the community, I am proud to be a part of Citizens.

4. What are you looking forward to about your new position?

I’m excited about working with the employees at Citizens. Based on my observations since my start date in early-January, the employees have built modern, reliable and safe systems which stand above many other utilities. I’m eager to learn from everyone and contribute to the strong, positive culture.

5. You and your wife, Sanae, moved here from Pennsylvania. How is life different now?

We have noticed people are genuinely friendly. We like the Midwestern hospitality and the vibrancy of downtown Indy.

6. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy traveling, sailing, and trekking.

7. Can you share a fun fact about yourself?

I learned to drive a manual transmission, and still prefer it over automatic. In fact, I special ordered my Ford F250 to have a manual transmission.
