The National Fire Protection Association reported that U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of more than 350,000 home fires per year, 2011-2015. These fires caused an annual average of more than 2,500 civilian deaths, more than 12,000 injuries, and $6.7 billion in direct damage.

Follow these tips to keep your family safe:

  • Install smoke detectors and test routinely.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in your garage and in your kitchen.
  • Plan escape routes and meeting places with your family.
  • Keep dryer vents clean.
  • Don’t overload electrical circuits.
