The Partnership for Safe Water has recognized Citizens Energy Group’s T.W. Moses Water Treatment Plant with the Presidents Award for Treatment Plant Optimization.
The Partnership for Safe Water is an unprecedented alliance of six prestigious drinking water organizations, including the American Water Works Association. The Presidents Award recognizes plants for achieving the Partnership's stringent goals for the optimization of individual filter performance. The optimization assessment is designed to help utilities evaluate treatment plant performance and make enhancements in operations to reduce the risk of exposure to Cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite that can cause serious illness and death in humans. The assessment also helps utilities achieve superior water quality beyond what is required by current regulations.Located on west 56th Street, the T.W. Moses Water Treatment Plant processes up to 24 million gallons of water per day from Eagle Creek Reservoir to deliver drinking water throughout northwestern Marion, Hendricks, and Boone Counties.
“Water utility professionals trained in the Partnership's requirements and review techniques concluded that Citizens’ T.W. Moses Water Treatment Plant satisfied the extensive requirements of the Presidents Award and has demonstrated its commitment to superior treatment plant performance,” said Kevin Linder, Partnership for Safe Water: PEAC Treatment Chair.
Dan Moran, Director, Water Quality System Control and Planning for Citizens, said the Presidents Award for T.W. Moses is “the latest example of the strong commitment of Water Operations employees to delivering superior-quality drinking water to our customers.”
Moran added that the self-assessment through the Partnership for Safe Water also helps operations personnel identify improvement opportunities that can further enhance water quality.
Several employees were instrumental in this process, including Don Plummer, Tony Traylor, William Jones, Travis Conway, Scott Griffith, Tony Isenberger, Doug Payton, Breann Cooper, Leo Sparks, Greg Thompson, and Chris Barron.
Steve Berube, Director of Water Production, credited the team effort. “The Partnership process is a great fit with Citizens’ culture: It is built around a continuous improvement mindset involving a team approach to improving water quality.”
Citizens has previously received Directors Awards from the Partnership for Safe Water for the White River Water Treatment Plant, Fall Creek Water Treatment Plant, and the Citizens Water Distribution System. The Directors Award is based on a peer-reviewed self-assessment of plant operations and water quality data and establishes utilities as high-performing providers of safe drinking water.
