Community Celebrates Opening of Rock Ramp

Citizens Energy Group celebrated the completion of the White River Rock Ramp alongside the City of Indianapolis and the Riverside community on Monday, May 23. The rock ramp ensures water supply for Citizens’ White River Water Treatment Plant via an upstream water intake, contributes to a healthy fish population, and partially restores Lake Indy, a popular recreational amenity for the Riverside community for more than 100 years.

When Citizens Energy Group began exploring the idea of creating a new tool to open manhole lids, we didn’t have to go far for some fresh ideas. Mechanical engineering students in the Partnership for Excellence in Research and Learning (PERL) program at IUPUI took on the challenge using resources from Citizens including tools, access to structures, standard operating procedure (SOP) for current work practices, and access to staff with knowledge of the industry.
