The first Friday in February is National Wear Red Day

Did you know heart disease is the No. 1 killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second?

What
is Means to Go Red for Women

G: Get Your Numbers

O: Own Your Lifestyle

R: Realize Your Risk

E: Educate Your Family

D: Don’t be Silent

Join your coworkers in raising awareness and helping fund the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke. Below are a few ways you can get involved.

Wear Red Next Friday

On National Wear Red Day, Friday, February 7, join thousands of people across the country in wearing red to kick off American Heart Month. Plan to meet in the Board Room at Langsdale 1B at 11 a.m. for a group photo. Mark Jacob, VP Capital Programs & Engineering/Quality Systems, serves on the board for the American Heart Association, so let’s show our strong support!

Purchase Hearts

Several employees will be selling paper hearts to raise money for the American Heart Association. This fundraiser will kick off at our “Wear Red Day” photo on February 7, and will continue until the Heart Walk in September (more info below). Any donation amount is accepted. To purchase hearts, contact Vicki Hughes, Chris Kehl, Keith Legge, Marcia Mitchell, or Jessica Small.

Attend the Red Dress Dash

On Tuesday, February 4, put on a red dress and sneakers and join others from across the community on Monument Circle for the Go Red For Women Red Dress Dash. Don’t have a red dress? Don’t worry – you can pick up one in the Diva Closet at the event, which includes other activities and vendor booths beginning at noon in the lobby of the Emmis building on the Circle. The one-lap dash begins at 12:30 p.m.

Save the Date for the Heart Walk/5K Run

Mark your calendar for the 2020 Indianapolis Heart Walk/5K Run, to be held September 12 at Victory Field. Did you know Citizens will reimburse employees up to $30 per running race (maximum three races per year)? Register to participate or make a donation online. Contact Sara Pickett for more information.
